Cross Country Competition 14th April 2016
This competition had been reorganised after dreadful weather at the beginning of March. Luckily, the day was beautiful with lovely sunshine perfect for running. The competition consists of four races, the year 3/4 boys and Year 3/4 girls races run over two and a half laps of Hollesley school grounds and the Year 5/6 boys and Year 5/6 girls races over 3 and a half laps. Our Year 5/6 teams consisted of Joe, Lucas, Harvey and Ben running in the boys' event and Freya, Ellie, Martha and Libby running the girls' race. Gavin, Josh, Finn and Mercutio ran in younger boys' race with Amelia, Matilda, Ayla and Natasha competing in the younger girls' event.
With 11 schools competing and therefore 44 children in each race the competition was tough, but our children all enjoyed the event and all tried hard. Joe Turner placed 5th, Freya 5th and Martha 6th but everyone that finished received points for their school and when the scores were totalled Bawdsey finished 5th overall behind the big Woodbridge schools and 1st in the small schools group.
Our runners made us proud this year and there are a few that deserve special mention, Lucas fell and injured his leg during his race and managed to jump back up and continue and Amelia, who had broken her arm a couple of days before the event but despite being in plaster, decided that it would not stop her taking part. Lastly, our young runners, Ayla (Year 2) and Natasha (Year 1) ran in the Year 3/4 race, due to the low number of girls in Class 2, and showed courage and determination throughout their race.
Well done to everyone who took part.
